HK bars nightlife and entertainmentHong Kong Nightlife | Bars Night Clubs Hong Kong

Nightlife, Bars, Clubs, Hong Kong.

There’s no doubt that for years Hong Kong has set the trend in Asian nightlife. Vibrant, noisy, colourful, extreme there’s nowhere else that has quite the same buzz or is as crazy about karaoke!

There are two main entertainment district on the Island: Lan Kwai Fong (Central) and Wanchai the former where you’ll find more cosmopolitan action (most expats hang out here). If you prefer to go clubbing with just the locals, there are some fairly wild clubs in Causeway Bay , while Wanchai (the famous Suzy Wong area) is where to go if you’re looking for dancing girls and bar prices to match! Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon the name for the mainland just a short hop from Hong Kong Island also has some great bars and clubs and is definitely worth a visit.

Hong Kong boasts some of the best pubs and bars in Asia with tourists and locals mixing alike and options to suit all tastes and wallets. You need to explore, but don’t dismiss the major hotels out of hand, because some of them have some great venues.
As a taster, try Blue (in Four Seasons), Mo Bar (in Landmark Oriental), Captain's Bar (in Mandarin Oriental), and Armani Bar in Landmark Building. The Feather Boa in Staunton Street, Soho, is very popular with media folk and the very fashionable. A former antique store, with some of the furniture still in place, its hot on design but not always as hot on service. In the Wanchai district recommended bars include The White Stag, Devils Advocate, and Klong Bar & Grill which is very popular o Wednesday nights when ladies are apparently served free vodka! Finally, not forgetting the Irish bar brigade there’s Delaney, which always has a good choice of beer available and live sport coverage, the Dublin Jack, The Whiskey Priest which offers 60 varieties of whiskey, Guinness, Kilkenny, and Murphy’s plus traditional Irish stew and more live sports!
Miss Hong KongFoodwise you can find just about anything and everything in Hong Kong and the list of recommendations goes on and on and on. Great restaurants include Cococabana in Deep Water Bay, Press Room on Hollywood Road, Peking Gardens in Landmark Building (great noodle show at 8:30pm and excellent Peking Duck, but you need to order in advance), La Mer in LKF Hotel, Dragon I on Wyndham Street, Harlans in IFC Shopping Mall, Zest on Wyndham street, and Dot Cod for one of the best fish restaurants in Asia. Yung Kee in Wellington Street, Central, is famous for classic Cantonese fare, especially roast goose and barbecued pork (and menus are available in English!), while also in Central is M At The Fringe one of Hong Kong’s oldest independent Western restaurants. An interesting fusion of Japanese and Italian can be experienced at Aqua on the Peking Road, in Kowloon.
Magnificent views of Hong Kong can be found at Café Deco (1/F & 2/F, Peak Galleria, 118 Peak Road, +85228495111) situated on Peak Road. The menu is eclectic and features lots of beautifully fresh seafood, grilled meats and top tandoori dishes. Or there’s Felix, a modern style restaurant/bar at the top of the Peninsula Hotel in Kowloon. Pricey but the view 28 floors up over the harbour and Kowloon is unbelievable. And, I’m told, that if you’re a guy you simply have to try the toilets here. Don’t ask me why!
There’s just as much choice for clubs to dance the night away and they can be broadly segregated into two types: Western and Chinese. As a Westerner, you’d probably be better heading for a Western club. Almost all the hotels have clubs and, of course, many bars double as both, turning the disco music on around 11pm. Someplace Else in the basement of the Sheraton (Kowloon) is very ‘in’ currently, while ING the renovated Manhatten Club in the New World Renaissance View Hotel is very popular with locals and expats. Go late to Amnesia, near Lan Kwai Fong in Hollywood Road, if trance, techno music is your thing (its quite expensive but can keep going til 6am), while Strawberry is said to be ‘the’ late night dancing spot taking over from ‘the other’ hot spot Big Apple. Drop, in Hollywood Road, Soho, has some of Hong Kong’s best DJs playing and while drinks are pricey, the alcoholic content makes up for it! Beware, some of the flashier clubs can set you back as much as HK$200 to get in; bank on paying around HK$50 as an average.

Finally, a word about Karaoke Karoke is still a big part of Hong Kong and a favourite with both residents and tourists. There are loads of clubs, bars and restaurants that have private rooms where friends can get together and sing their hearts out. So if you’re a budding Elvis, Frank or Kylie…get practising!
