Bangkok's entertainment scene goes well beyond its naughty nightlife image.The once famous red-light areas of the two Patpongs now draw more sightseeers than flesh seekers, but the show must and still goes on. But remember nothing in life is for free. So the signs saying "Free Sex Show" must surely be there by mistake ! ! !
Over the past decade Bangkok has transformed itself into South East Asia’s most fashionable and exciting city, stacked full of chic restaurants and idiosyncratic places to stay.
Despite the 21st century modishness, much of Bangkok’s appeal comes from the old ways of life that persist around the ankles of the glitzy skyscrapers. Take some time to go around the city’s canalside neighbourhoods, where stilted wooden houses still dominate. Alternatively, take to the water, the Chao Phraya Express ferry is the scenic way to cover longer distances, or ride the commuters longtail boat shuttle downtown along Khlong Saen canal. |
Move on, there is much much more: Th Khao San. OK it's a tourist strip, but what a great place to go: it has just about everything imaginable for a great time out. Check out Center Khao or Gullivers Travellers Tavern. Siam Square, always a trusted and reliable place and home of the Hard Rock Cafe and the Diplomat Bar. Silom's worth it for the Verigo Bar alone, and as it's on the 59th floor (Banyan Tree Hotel) let's hope the elevator's working.
